🤔 FAQs
These are the questions we are most frequently asked about making Italian Herb marinated Oven Baked Chicken Breast.
It usually takes around 20-25 minutes at 350F. This also depends on the size of the chicken breast cooked. Larger chicken breasts could need up to 35-40 minutes to cook.
Some suggest that cooking chicken at a higher temperature for a shorter time produces more tender and juicy meat. That said, the temperature of 50F isn’t that drastic so I doubt that there’ll be a noticeable difference.
It’ll most likely cut the cooking time down by 3-5 minutes, so you’ll need to cook the chicken breasts for 20-22 minutes.
There won’t be much difference in cooking time here with just a 25F difference in temperature. You could perhaps expect to shave off about 2 minutes of cooking time, depending on your oven.
👩🏻🍳 Tips
- Using skinless and boneless chicken breasts is a great way of reducing any recipe preparation. It’s also much faster to cook than cooking skin-on, bone-in chicken. If you do opt to keep the skin on your chicken and use cuts of chicken with bone, you will need to adjust your cooking time and be careful not to burn the skin.
- Leftover oven baked chicken breast can be used in other meals such as pasta dishes, casseroles, chicken pot pies, chicken soup, or even as sandwich fillers. Either cut your chicken into cubes or shred it.
- Cooked chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165F. If you are ever in doubt, insert an instant-read food thermometer into the chicken.
- Chicken shouldn’t be marinated for over 12 hours, overwise the texture of the meat becomes stringy.
📚 Variations
- If you aren’t a person who enjoys marinated meat, you can certainly leave the marinade off your chicken. I do recommend though that you add some olive oil and simple seasoning to the baked boneless chicken breast.
- If you wish to cook your chicken in the slow cooker instead of the oven, feel free to do so. You’ll need to cook on Low for 3 hours and add about ¼ cup of chicken broth to the slow cooker pot.
- I’ve used skinless chicken breasts but I know that some people love crispy chicken skin. If you buy chicken breasts with skin on, you may wish to set the chicken to broil in the last 5 minutes of the baking time to crisp up the skin!
- This recipe works just as well with other cuts of chicken meat such as chicken thighs. Feel free to swap out the breasts for thighs or use a combination.
🥫 Storage
Baked boneless chicken breast can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
You can also freeze this oven baked chicken breast for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and incorporate it into other recipes.
