🗒 Instructions

First set of four steps to making the baked beans in the slow cooker.
  1. Add diced bacon to a large skillet or pan and place over medium heat. Cook bacon until crispy and golden brown. Drain the bacon and blot with a paper towel.
  2. In the same skillet cook the ground beef and onion until the meat is browned, drain and set aside.
  3. Add the drained kidney beans, butter beans, park and beans to the slow cooker.
  4. Add in the bacon.
Second set of four steps to making the slow cooker bean side dish.
  1. Next add in the cooked hamburger and onions.
  2. Add in the molasses and bbq sauce.
  3. Then add the ketchup to your slow cooker.
  4. Dump in the packed brown sugar.

  1. Next, add in the yellow mustard.
  2. Lastly, add in the seasonings and stir.
  3. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low heat for 6 to 7 hours.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

  • For easy clean I suggest making sure that you spray your slow cooker well with cooking spray or use a slow cooker liner.
  • Be sure to drain the beans well before adding them to your slow cooker so that your sauce does not become runny.
  • If you don't have yellow mustard on hand, you can use dijon or spicy brown mustard.
  • If you have leftover cooked bacon, you can use that instead of cooking extra bacon for this recipe.

  • For a smokier flavor, you can add in some smoked paprika.

Equipment Needed

  • Large Skillet
  • Crockpot
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Dry measuring cups
  • Silicone spatula
  • Large baking dish if making the beans in the oven.

Ingredients

  • ½ pound Bacon dices
  • ½ pound Ground Beef
  • 1 Medium Onion chopped
  • ½ cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup Ketchup
  • ¼ cup Spicy Barbecue Sauce Use mild if you prefer less spicy.
  • 2 Tablespoons Prepared Mustard
  • 2 Tablespoons Molasses
  • ½ teaspoon Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 can Kidney Beans, drained the original size was 16 ounces - cans are now 15 ounces.
  • 1 can Butter Beans, drained The original size was 16 ounces - cans are now 15 ounces.
  • 2 cans Pork and Beans, drained Cans are 16 ounce size.

Instructions

Slow Cooker Method

  • Add diced bacon to a large skillet or pan and place over medium heat. Cook bacon until crispy and golden brown. Drain the bacon and blot with a paper towel.
  • In the same skillet cook the ground beef and onion until the meat is browned, drain and set aside.
  • Add the drained kidney beans, butter beans, park and beans to the slow cooker. Add in the bacon and the hamburger/onion.
  • Next add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon until everything is well combined.
  • Cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-7 hours.

Baked in the oven

  • Follow steps 1 and 2 as for slow cooker.
  • In a large mixing bowl add the drained beans and the cooked meat.
  • Add the rest of the seasonings and mix until well combined.
  • Pour the baked beans in a large lightly greased casserole dish.
  • Bake the beans in a preheated 350℉ oven for 1 hour.

      When I was a kid growing up in UK we often had Heinz baked beans on toast for dinner. I've never made them myself but now I really want to. I don't have a slow cooker but am definitely going to make these beans in the oven. They sound so flavourful. And, I love that you've added bacon and ground beef!
