  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast halves about 4 breast
  • Vegetable oil
  • Fresh White Button mushrooms, quartered
  • Fresh shiitake mushrooms, stems removed, caps sliced
  • Unsalted butter
  • Italian dry salad dressing mix package
  • Golden Mushroom Soup
  • Dry White wine -- you may substitute Chicken stock
  • Cream Cheese Spread with chives and onion
  • Chives - garnish optional
  • Angel Hair pasta

  1. Brown the chicken on both sides in a large skillet in hot oil over medium heat.
  2. Combine mushrooms in the slow cooker.
  3. Top the mushrooms with the browned chicken breasts.
  4. Melt butter in a medium saucepan.

  1. Stir in the Italian dressing mix to the melted butter.
  2. Whisk in the mushroom soup, white wine, and cream cheese and continue to stir until the cream cheese is melted.
  3. Then pour the sauce over the chicken.
  4. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 4-5 hours (this may depend on your crockpot.). Serve chicken and sauce over cooked pasta or rice. Sprinkle with chives.

How many hours do you cook chicken in a crock pot?

Chicken needs to be cooked for 4 to 6 hours in the slow cooker on low. Or 2 to 4 hours on high.

Should my chicken be covered in liquid in a slow cooker?

Yes, I find cooking the chicken in liquid helps to keep the chicken breast moist in the slow cooker.

Can you overcook pulled chicken in a slow cooker?

Yes, it is possible to overcook chicken in a slow cooker. I don't recommend cooking it for longer than 8 hours.

  • Spray the slow cooker well with cooking spray for easy clean up or use a slow cooker liner.
  • If you don't have golden mushroom soup on hand you can use cream of mushroom soup.
  • Trim the fat off the chicken breasts before you add them to the slow cooker for best results.
  • Serve this dish with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles. If you are low carb you could also eat it just as it is.
  • This recipe is best made with fresh mushrooms. Shiitake and white button mushrooms can be found at most grocery stores. If you can't find fresh mushrooms, you can substitute with canned mushrooms. Just make sure to drain them well before adding them to the slow cooker.

  • Add more vegetables to this dish to make this an all in one meal. You can add zucchini, carrots or even bell peppers when you add the mushrooms.
  • For additional flavor you can season your chicken breasts with salt and black pepper before you brown them.

  • Use Ranch seasoning mix instead of the Italian seasoning mix.
  • If you can't find cream cheese with chives and onions, you can use plain cream cheese and mix in some onion soup mix to your soup mixture.

  • Mixing bowl

  • 1½ pounds Boneless, skinless chicken breast halves about 4 breast
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 8 ounces Fresh White Button mushrooms, quartered
  • 8 ounces Fresh shiitake mushrooms, stems removed, caps sliced
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 0.7 ounce Italian dry salad dressing mix package
  • 10.75 ounce Can condensed Golden Mushroom Soup
  • ½ cup Dry White wine May substitute Chicken stock
  • ½ of 8 ounce Tub Cream Cheese Spread with chives and onion
  • Chives - garnish optional
  • 12 ounces Angel Hair pasta

  • Brown the chicken on both sides in a large skillet in hot oil over medium heat.
  • Combine mushrooms in the slow cooker; top with chicken.
  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan.
  • Stir in the Italian dressing mix.

  • Pour over chicken.
