🗒 Instructions
This is an overview of the instructions. Full instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Melt the butter over low - medium heat in a large pot.
- Add the mini marshmallows to the melted butter and stir to combine.
- Melt the marshmallows until the mixture is smooth, but be careful not to burn the mixture.
- Remove the pot from the heat and add in the rice Krispie cereal.
- Stir the mixture until all of the cereal is fully coated.
- Press the mixture into a 9x13 greased baking dish and press down with a rubber spatula. Allow it to set for 30 minutes.
- Loosen the edges of the set rice Krispie mixture and turn it out onto a cutting board or parchment paper. Slice into uniform-sized rectangles.
- Melt the green candy using the microwave or a double boiler. Then, decorate each Rice Krispie rectangle. Dip the tops of the rectangles into the green melted chocolate, sprinkle with chocolate jimmies, and add the candy eyes. Once the chocolate has set, pipe black icing to make stiches for the mouth.
🥫 Storage
Store leftover Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
I don't recommend storing these Halloween Krispie treats in the fridge. They will harden and become hard to enjoy.
📚 Variations
- Adapt the decoration to suit a different holiday or party theme. Use different colored candy melts and sprinkles, as an example.
- Add food coloring gel or melted candy melts to the rice Krispie mixture if you want the rectangles to have color.
- Stick a mini marshmallow on either side of the Frankenstein treat as ears.
👩🏻🍳 Tips
- I like to spray the rubber spatula with non-stick spray. This helps the Rice Krispie mixture not stick to the marshmallow mixture when I press it down in the baking dish.
- You need to work fast when decorating the rice Krispie rectangles. The melted chocolate must still be wet for the sprinkles and candy eyes to stick.
- The black stitches for the mouth is the last part of the decoration for these Halloween Krispie treats. Allow the stitches to dry before you serve these treats.
- I like to grease the baking dish with cooking spray or butter. This makes it easier to spread the Rice Krispie mixture. If I use parchment paper, the mixture can slip and move around a lot.
