Do you have a favorite song . . . or a favorite melody? You know, one that reminds you of a special person, or a special time in your life? I have quite a few . . .
. . . but there is one . . .
. . .one that brings a smile to my face . . .
. . . tears to my eyes. . .
. . . and sunshine to my heart.
When our kids were small, I'd teach them songs and we'd sing them together . . . didn't matter if we weren't in tune. The music came from our hearts. I was pregnant with my third child when I taught our four and five year old a special song. They loved the song and they could really belt it out as only young kids can when they are enthusiastic about something. One day my four year old son was sitting on the sofa looking very forlorn. His eyes filled up with tears. . . I pulled him onto my lap. . .or what was left of it . . .and asked what was wrong. He whispered that he didn't want me to leave . . .and go to the 'spitol. . .
What's a mom to do?
I thought a minute . . .
Then I suggested that when he felt blue and missed me that he should sing our special song. I said I'd sing it too, and every time he sang it to just remember how very much I love him.
It wasn't long after that when I delivered my second son. Grandma was at home with my daughter and son so she called the hospital so they could talk to me. My princess was first on the line and she went into great details about what she had done and what a big help she was to Grandma. . . Little princesses love to talk. Next came time for me to talk to my little boy. . .
. . .I asked how is my little man . . .
. . .and then. . .
. . .I heard this sweet soft voice on the other end singing. . .
. . .You are my sunshine. . .my only sunshine. . .
you make me happy when skies are grey.
Tears rolled down my cheeks and I could hardly speak. . .he was singing our special song. I will treasure that moment. . .
Forever!!
I've thought about doing this particular project for a long time. I saw this done in a magazine many years ago and I believe that I was waiting for just the right song. This is a simple way to memorialize a special moment. It is very easy to do. In fact, it would make a nice gift for someone -- having a song that reminds you of them or describes them. For the project all you need is:
1. Sheet music or a printed copy on card stock -- many websites offer free copies or very inexpensive downloads
2. 2 black tea bags or more if you want the background darker with the tea stain
3. Frame and matting
4. Container for tea bath
Pour boiling water over the tea bags. If you want it darker you can use three tea bags. Once the tea cools add a little extra water just enough to cover the bottom of the container you will use to bathe the sheet music. I would not let it soak -- it might fall apart. Have paper towels ready and place the sheet music on the paper towels. Let it air dry for about an hour and then put more paper towels on top and put a book or heavy magazine on top so that the paper dries flat. Once it is dry you can frame it. Simple!!
