🤔 FAQs

These are the questions we are most frequently asked about making Loaded Fries recipe.

What are loaded fried made of?

Loaded French fries consist of French fries (packaged or homemade), topped with various ingredients of your choice such as shredded cheese, sliced jalapenos, chopped bacon, and drizzled with sour cream.

What can you put on French fries?

There are so many different toppings that you can load onto your French fries. Apart from what I’ve used as toppings, consider using diced deli ham, caramelized onions, baked beans, mac and cheese, cooked ground beef, pulled pork, chili, gravy, tomato sauce, or barbecue sauce.

What does Checkers put on their loaded fries?

Checkers Fries are topped with cheese, Ranch dressing, and crispy bacon.

Where does loaded fries come from?

It’s rumored that either Don A. Jenkins from Texas invented the chili cheese fry variation or that Austin Ruse from Missouri was the first to serve this dish while working at Dairy Queen. Either way, this dish is a classic American invention and we thank whoever came up with the idea!

👩🏻‍🍳 Tips

  • You can prepare some of the toppings for your loaded fries such as shredding the cheese, slicing the jalapenos, and cooking the bacon, in advance and storing these toppings in individual airtight containers in the fridge the day before baking your fries.
  • These loaded fries taste best the day that they're made. They may start to taste stale otherwise.
  • Stored loaded fries can be reheated the next day in the oven or in the microwave.
  • Shred your cheese from a block of cheese instead of using pre-shredded cheese. Freshly shredded cheese melts better and tastes better too.
  • These cheesy loaded French fries don't freeze well as the texture of the fries change.

📚 Variations

  • I’ve used a mixture of shredded cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese but you can use any kind of shredded cheese that melts well.
  • If you don’t enjoy pickled jalapenos, simply omit them.
  • Replace the sour cream drizzle with Ranch dressing, barbecue sauce, or any other sauce of your liking.
  • Baking these packaged French Fries is a great way to reduce unnecessary calories but you can also deep fry the French Fries and then add them to the oven for 5-10 minutes once the toppings have been added.
  • If you have the time and desire, go ahead and make your own French fries from scratch.
