📚 Variations

  • Beef - For a budget-friendly alternative to steak, use ground beef. It pairs perfectly with teriyaki sauce. Just drain any extra grease, then keep cooking with the next steps. Chicken and shrimp are other delicious alternatives to beef.,
  • Stir-fry veggies — Add what you love. Try mushrooms, zucchini, baby corn, snap peas, carrots, water chestnuts, or cauliflower. Mix and match for your family.

👩🏻‍🍳 Tips

  • Use a sharp kitchen knife for easier slicing of the beef and veggies. It's best to have all of the ingredients prepared before starting as this recipe moves quickly!
  • Make your rice ahead to save time and reheat just before serving with the beef teriyaki stir fry mixture. Noodles can be boiled while you make the stir fry. Store-bought packaged cauliflower rice adds convenience!
  • Slice the steak against the grain into thin, uniform strips for better tenderness and faster cooking.
  • Remove the vegetables while they’re still slightly crisp to prevent them from becoming mushy when added back to the skillet with the sauce.
  • Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan for 1-2 minutes before sprinkling on top to enhance their nutty flavor.
  • Use low-sodium teriyaki sauce if you want more control over saltiness in this dish.

👨🏻‍🍳Chef's Tip:
Want those super-thin restaurant-style beef slices? Pop the steak into the freezer for about 20 minutes first. It firms up just enough to make slicing much easier — and your knife won’t fight you every step of the way.

Some nights you just want a fast dinner that tastes like you cooked for hours. This Beef Teriyaki Stir Fry is that recipe. It’s colorful and flavorful, and it fills the kitchen with the most wonderful aroma as it cooks. The best part? Everything cooks in one padella (skillet). That means less cleanup. And it gives you more time to sit, relax, and enjoy dinner with your favorite people.

I especially love recipes like this because they’re flexible. You can use any vegetables you have in the fridge. Serve it over rice or noodles. You can also swap the steak for ground beef. It helps when prices make you clutch your portafoglio (wallet). Mamma would absolutely approve of stretching ingredients. And she’d love making something delicious without overspending.

And let’s be honest… this tastes so good that nobody will even miss takeout. Add a spolverata(sprinkle) of sesame seeds and a handful of green onions. Suddenly, dinner feels a little special, with no extra fuss.

So pour yourself a little glass of vino, grab your biggest ciotola (bowl), and enjoy every savory bite. Buon appetito, amici! 🍜🥢

Equipment Needed

  • Cutting Board
  • 10"large kitchen knife
  • Spoon
  • Skillet
  • Measuring spoons and cups

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 red bell peppers sliced
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil divided
  • 1 - 1 ½ pounds steak May substitute 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
  • ¾ cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Wash and cut the vegetables. Cut the beef into thin slices. See note 1 for tips.
  • See note 2 about using ground beef in place of the steak. You would cook the ground beef first, then set it aside.
  • To a skillet over medium heat, add the broccoli, peppers, onions, and 1 tablespoon of avocado oil.
  • Stir for 7–10 minutes.
  • Transfer the vegetables to a platter.
  • Add the steak and 1 tablespoon of avocado oil to the skillet.
  • Cook for 3-5 minutes or until just barely pink.
  • Transfer the vegetables and teriyaki sauce to the skillet.
  • Make a slurry with the water and cornstarch by mixing together. Add the slurry to the skillet.
  • Toss until the vegetables are heated through and the sauce begins to thicken.
  • Top with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

NOTE 1: For best results, partially freeze the steak for 20–30 minutes before slicing. This helps achieve thin, even slices that cook quickly and stay tender.
NOTE 2: You will start with this method when preparing the stir-fry:

Use:

  • 1 to 1½ pounds lean ground beef

Method:

  1. Brown the ground beef first.
  2. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Remove from skillet.
  4. Stir-fry vegetables.
  5. Add beef back in with teriyaki sauce.
  6. Add slurry and simmer.

Extra tip:

Add:
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger
Ground beef benefits from a little extra flavor punch since it lacks the richness of steak strips.
You can also replace the beef with chicken or shrimp.
You can serve the stir-fry with rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.
This recipe can be doubled, or you can even just add more vegetables.
