Legend has it . . . . once you get sand from St. Simons beaches in your shoes . . . .

    . . . . like the tide . . . .

    . . . . you will always return.

    tides, return, Saint Simons Island

The Sands of Saint Simons Island

The legend has merit! Ever since we first visited Saint Simons,  we've returned every year. Then once a year wasn't enough . . . . we started coming twice a year. . . . for a month at a time.

    We have to admit that there're many interesting and beautiful places along the Atlantic coast . . . . we've stayed at The Isle of Palms . . . . Edisto Island . . . . Tybee Island . . . . Oak Island, NC and they've all had their charm. . . .

    . . . .but . . . .

    . . . . it's Saint Simons Island that calls to us.

    Saint Simons Island Lighthouse

It's not just its beauty that calls to us . . . . because we've seen many beautiful places. And it's not the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets  that takes our breath away . . . .

    Jekyll Pier

    . . . . or the ancient oaks draped with Spanish moss . . . .

. . . .it's not even the many fantastic restaurants that pepper the island . . . . some of which have been featured on the Food Network . For instance,  Guy Fieri from Diners Drive-ins and Dives couldn't stop raving about . . . .

Guy Fieri featured on Triple D

    Southern Soul Barbeque

. . . . his delicious Southern Soul Sandwich, Brunswick stew and Collard Greens. Nope . . . it's not just that.

I suppose you could say part of the reason we like it so well is that we're  so comfortable here . . . .

    . . . .which we are . . .

    . . . .we rent a charming house . . .

    minutes from village

House on Brown Drive Near the Village

. . . .with all the comforts of home. . . .and it's only minutes from the village and pier.

    The house has personality. . . .plus it has a name. . . . isn't that wonderful?

    Righteous Oaks

And in the village along with all the other quaint shops there is a delightful tea shop that carries the tea I prefer . . . .

    many different teas

    Saint Simons Tea Company

. . . . but these reasons are icing on the Saint Simons cake. The main reason we can't seem to stay away is. . . .

    . . . .the people.

    locals, visitors

    Special People At The Pier

We're not just talking about the "locals" but people from other areas who also can't stay away from SSI.

The friendliness and southern warmth makes you feel as if you've lived there your whole life.

And now since my Hubby has discovered how much he enjoys fishing here . . . .

    . . . .and how bountiful the fishing can be. . . .

    Respectful Pelican

. . . .and how respectful the  Saint Simons Island pelican's are . . . . we're the ones that are hooked on Saint Simons Island.

You can live in a paradise but it's the people that make all the difference. We'll be writing more about Saint Simons Island when we return in the fall. To be continued . . . .
