🤔 FAQs
These questions are most frequently asked about making this Orange refrigerator dessert.
In the 1920s, the Popsicle Company introduced the original creamsicle frozen dessert. The frozen dessert consisted of a vanilla ice cream center coated with a layer of orange-flavored ice.
Creamsicle drinks are typically made of vanilla ice cream and orange soda (or juice) that’s blended together with some recipes, including milk or the addition of alcohol for a boozy version.
It’s believed that the first orange creamsicle was invented by an 11-year-old boy (Frank Epperson) in 1905, who experimented with placing fruit juice around vanilla ice cream.
A creamsicle is a type of ice cream dessert, whether in the form of a drink, dessert bar, ice cream sandwich, or another treat that combines vanilla ice cream (or a cream-based ingredient) and orange flavoring.
👩🏻🍳 Tips
- Using high-quality ingredients in this dessert will ensure the best flavors and texture.
- Press the crust firmly and evenly into the loaf pan. Store the crust in the fridge while preparing the cheesecake layer so that it sets to hold shape.
- Allow the cream cheese to soften before combining with the rest of the ingredients for a smooth texture.
- It’s important to chill the individual dessert layers in the fridge as you make and assemble this orange creamsicle dessert. This helps to set the layers so that they don’t bleed into each other.
- Keep this dessert refrigerated until ready to serve, otherwise it will soften.
- Add extra flair to these dessert bars by garnishing them with fresh orange slices or a sprinkling of orange zest.
- Don’t over whip the heavy cream when making the whipped cream as it will start to break down and you’ll have to start again
📚 Variations
- Crust: Use another vanilla sweet cracker or cookie instead of the vanilla Oreo crumbs. Graham crackers are a good option. You may also use Gluten-free cookie crumbs.
- Orange Layer: Use a lemon Jello mix or another fruity Jello mix instead of the orange flavor. While this dessert won’t be an “orange creamsicle” any longer, it will still be delicious!
- Whipped topping: For extra orange flavor, add orange extract to the whipped topping or freshly grated orange zest. Use Cool Whip instead of the whipped cream and powdered sugar.
🥫 Storage
Store these orange creamsicle dessert bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
