Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker, strainer, jigger, and muddler
  • Cocktail glasses

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces limoncello
  • 2 ounces gin *** see notes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 4 ounces sparkling wine like Prosecco is good
  • ¼ cup lemon sorbet

Instructions

  • Stir together limoncello, gin, and lemon juice in an ice-filled mixing glass until mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted, about 30 seconds.
  • Strain mixture into a rocks glass or a wine glass. Top cocktail with sparkling wine and lemon sorbet, and serve with a spoon.

Notes

This lemony cocktail float blends the bright taste of a French 75 with Italian limoncello. It adds a citrusy, floral zing. Top it off with sparkling wine for a bright, bubbly summer drink. Then add a scoop of lemon sorbet to finish. It becomes part cocktail, part dessert, and totally satisfying.
Stir limoncello, gin, and lemon juice with ice, then strain. This chills the drink and slightly dilutes the alcohol. Since this drink uses store-bought sorbet, you can tweak the sweetness. If your sorbet is very sweet, use less sugar in the cocktail.
If it’s tart, add a little more. And yes, you can make your own sorbet, if you’d like.
Add more lemon juice to tamp down the sweetness, or a touch more limoncello to add more.
***If you’re not a fan of gin’s floral notes, consider trying vodka instead for a more neutral spin on the drink. Though this recipe makes just one drink, don’t forget that you can easily scale the proportions up to serve a crowd. If you’re opening a bottle of sparkling wine, why not use all of it
