Ingredients

Brownie Batter:

  • ½ cup Unsalted butter melted (113 g)
  • ¾ cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips or roughly chopped chocolate (127.5 grams)
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar (100 g)
  • ½ cup Light brown sugar packed (100 g)
  • cup Cocoa powder (35 g)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (5 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 Eggs large
  • ½ cup All-purpose flour (65 g)

Cookie Dough:

  • ½ cup Unsalted butter Room temperature (113 g)
  • ½ cup Granulated sugar (113 g)
  • ¼ cup Light brown sugar packed (50 g)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 Egg large
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon Baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 ⅓ cups All-purpose flour (160 g)
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips (170 g)

Instructions

  • Line a 9X13-inch baking dish with parchment paper and heat oven to 350℉.

For the brownies:

  • Melt the butter then stir in the cocoa powder. Whisk in both sugar and the salt.
Add the eggs and vanilla and with the electric mixer beat well. ** check out the secret in notes.
  • Add the flour and mix until almost combined.
With a rubber or silicone spatula fold in the chocolate chips by hand. Scrape the batter down from the bowl sides mixing in any remaining flour from the bottom and sides.
  • Tranfser the brownie batter to the prepared baking pan and spread it into a thin layer. Set aside.

For the cookie dough:

  • With the electric mixer cream the butter, and sugars on high for 3 to 4 minutes until light and fluffy. Scrape the batter from the bowl sides and bottom as needed.
  • Mix in the vanilla and egg. Scrape the bowl down once more.
  • In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder until well-mixed.
  • Add in the flour combination and mix until combined.
  • With a spatula, fold in the chocolate chips by hand. (If you like, reserve a few tablespoons of chips to sprinkle on top of the brookies when you pull them out of the oven.)
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cookie batter onto the brownie batter. It doesn't need to cover the bottom layer. We want some of the brownie batter showing through.
  • Cover with foil and bake at 350℉ for 20 minutes then bake another 20 minutes uncovered.
  • Allow to cool before removing from pan and cutting.
